Chicken Paprikash (Hungarian Food)

Chicken Paprikash
My Mom put a little twist on it, I think it has more flavor.  This is also a lot easier to throw together!  This is my all time childhood favorite!

Dumpling Ingredients (Per batch, need 3-6 batches)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Hungarian Paprika
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼- ½ warm water

Directions

  1. Boil water in large pot.
  2. Mix all ingredients together (batter should be a little runny).
  3. Drop batter into boiling water with knife and spoon.
  4. Cook 10-15 min.  Noodles will float on top of water.
  5. Spoon out dumplings and go on to the next batch.

Sauce Ingredients
  • 2-3lbs of chicken breast (or whatever chicken you like, dark meat is normally used)
  • 3 Tbs Hungarian paprika (Must be Hungarian, it is sweet)
  • ½ tbs garlic powder/or salt
  • 1 can of chicken broth
  • 1 can of tomato soup
  • 1 cup of sour cream
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 tsp butter

Directions

  1. Cut chicken in to small cubes, add to pan on medium heat with onions and butter
  2. Add paprika, butter, and garlic
  3. Cook for 5 minutes
  4. Add chicken broth
  5. Cook for 10-15 minutes (until the chicken is just about done)
  6. Add tomato soup
  7. Cook for 10 minutes
  8. Take pan off of stove for 10-15 minutes, sauce needs to be cooled
  9. Add sour cream.  (To thicken sauce add a little flour)
